What to expect at a Surrey Scorchers game…

Never been to a Surrey Scorchers basketball game? Well, it’s not just a game, it’s a fun experience that you won’t want to miss.

Allow us to explain…

Doors open 2 hours prior to tip-off, get your tickets in advance or feel free to turn up on the day and buy your ticket on the door.

Head on down to the Bench Bar where you can soak up the pre-match atmosphere with our Game Day Menu including Rebound Wraps and Baller Burgers and enjoy a nice cold beer or soft drink. Or, head on through to the arena and watch the teams get warmed up.

Who’s who…

Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos is the main man. Creon has been involved in British Basketball for a number of years, and was in charge of Surrey Heat before returning to Surrey Sports Park to take charge of Surrey Scorchers.

You’ll see Creon screaming and shouting up and down the court, getting his team motivated throughout the game.

Tayo Ogedengbe is the Scorchers talisman and captain. Wearing No.15 he will lead his side out for a third consecutive season. He will be joined by returning stars Josh Steel, Jordan Williams and Creon’s son Caylin Raftopoulos as well as three imports from across the pound.

Each BBL side is allowed 3 non-EU players, and the 2018/19 Scorchers side will be bolstered by former fans’ MVP Quincy Taylor as well as Demario Beck and Willie Atwood!

The Game.

The lights go out and the teams are introduced from the bench, then comes the game itself

Each basketball game has four quarters of ten minutes…but expect to be entertained for a lot longer. The average basketball game will keep you on the edge of your seat for approximately two hours.

With plenty of slam dunks, lay-ups and three pointers on show, there’s plenty to keep the crowd entertained including our mischievous mascot Scorcher, who gets involved with the crowd throughout the game.

Post Game.

When the final buzzer goes, hopefully you’ll be celebrating another Scorchers home win (there’s been 11 in-a-row so far in 2018), and you’ll get to hear an on-court interview almost straight away.

Once you’ve left the arena, you can head to The Bench Sports Bar for some refreshments, including our special Game Day Menu.

You can also pick up your tickets for our next game from Front of House to make sure you don’t miss any upcoming Scorchers action!

Then once you’ve arrived safely back at home, stay tuned to our website and Social Media for post-game reaction!

If you’re interested in coming to a Surrey Scorchers basketball game, then you’re in luck! Surrey Scorchers will face the Cheshire Phoenix this Saturday at 7pm.

Guest Notice – Face Coverings

From Saturday 19th September, it will be essential for every person in Surrey Sports Park’s communal areas to wear a face covering. This is in-line with the campus-wide policy introduced by the University of Surrey.

The policy does not apply whilst taking part in sport and exercise and activity areas are exempt.

The University considers that the responsibility of wearing a face covering sits with individuals and we expect all our staff, students and public to adhere to this requirement where possible.

Please be mindful and respectful towards members of our community who, due to exceptional circumstances, may be unable to wear a face covering; their reasons may not be visible to others.

Thank you,

Surrey Sports Park
