Today (25 July) Surrey Scorchers announced the re-signing of Tayo Ogedengbe for the 2018/19 BBL Championship season.
Ogedengbe returns for his fourth consecutive season captaining Scorchers after joining the franchise as its inaugural signing.
Last season saw Ogedengbe lead Scorchers to their most successful season yet, finishing fifth in the BBL Championship.
Going into his fourth season as Scorchers captain, Ogedengbe said: “Feels great to be back for another year, this team, this club and this community is a part of me.”
Scorchers take on Ogedengbe’s former side in Glasgow Rocks, who knocked Scorchers out of the Play-Offs in May, in the opening game of the 2018/19 BBL Championship season.
“The work has already begun, and we have some unfinished business to take care of this year” said Ogedengbe.
Before spending the previous three seasons under Creon Raftopoulos, he spent time with London Lions and Glasgow Rocks and has been a consistently high point-scorer.
The forward scored his 1000th BBL field goal last season and averaged 13.22 ppg, 3.13 rebounds per-game.
Coach Raftopoulos said: “I feel it’s great news to have our captain back in Surrey.
“After a tough first season with the franchise we’ve had back to back years of improvement and Tayo has played a key role in that growth on and off the court.
“He has also been the captain and face of franchise constantly pushing for success and I know above all he has drive and desire to win as a Scorcher.”
The Scorchers captain is the first player confirmed to feature for the Scorchers select that will take on Bradley University at Surrey Sports Park in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday 31 July.

From Saturday 19th September, it will be essential for every person in Surrey Sports Park’s communal areas to wear a face covering. This is in-line with the campus-wide policy introduced by the University of Surrey.
The policy does not apply whilst taking part in sport and exercise and activity areas are exempt.
The University considers that the responsibility of wearing a face covering sits with individuals and we expect all our staff, students and public to adhere to this requirement where possible.
Please be mindful and respectful towards members of our community who, due to exceptional circumstances, may be unable to wear a face covering; their reasons may not be visible to others.
