Why Is Yoga So Popular?

We’ve all heard of it, but have you ever wondered why it’s so popular?

Involving a balance of stretching, breathing and controlled movements, this workout is sworn by as essential for improved wellbeing.

Stay Focused:

Taking part in yoga improves your concentration and focus levels which is extremely beneficial for those taking part in sport.

Sleep Better:

If you’re having difficulty getting your full eight hours every night, then yoga can help turn that around.

If you incorporate yoga into your workout routine, then this can decrease sleep disturbance which will improve both your sleep quality and duration!

Improve your flexibility and balance:

In a yoga class, there will be a number of specific poses that will target your flexibility and balance.

So, if you’re having trouble stretching before or after your work outs, then yoga is definitely a way you can enhance your flexibility.

Relieves anxiety:

Yoga is an essential tool for relieving anxiety, heightening the importance of being present in the moment and finding a sense of peace.

There are a number of yoga postures, known as asanas that help ease the physical discomfort that is caused by anxiety. These postures can aid in releasing any built-up muscle tension and stiffness throughout the body.

Get stronger:

If lifting weights isn’t for you, then yoga could be a great alternative to improve your strength.

As you move your body into a number of positions, lifting your body weight will improve your strength and help tone your muscles.

As well as increasing your strength Yoga both increases your energy levels and reduces fatigue.

Yoga is for everyone!

A yoga class is all-inclusive! It’s suitable for all ages, genders and any fitness level.

You don’t need any level of flexibility or fitness to practice yoga and unlike tough cardiovascular workouts, there is less focus on working the heart and lungs.

Both our yoga classes and courses at Surrey Sports Park are a great way to meet like-minded people and become part of a community.

If you’re totally new to Yoga, looking to improve or simply recharge and de-stress, then a Yoga course could be just for you!

Guest Notice – Face Coverings

From Saturday 19th September, it will be essential for every person in Surrey Sports Park’s communal areas to wear a face covering. This is in-line with the campus-wide policy introduced by the University of Surrey.

The policy does not apply whilst taking part in sport and exercise and activity areas are exempt.

The University considers that the responsibility of wearing a face covering sits with individuals and we expect all our staff, students and public to adhere to this requirement where possible.

Please be mindful and respectful towards members of our community who, due to exceptional circumstances, may be unable to wear a face covering; their reasons may not be visible to others.

Thank you,

Surrey Sports Park
