Acupuncture & Dry Needling

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a treatment derived from ancient Chinese medicine and has been practiced for thousands of years. Fine needles are inserted into certain sites in the body for a therapeutic effect.

Acupuncture and dry needling are used in western medicine to stimulate sensory nerves under the skin and in the muscles. In response to this, the body releases natural chemicals such as “feel good” endorphins, which can help to relieve pain.

Unlike dry needling, acupuncture also uses the well-practised principles of eastern medicine. For example, there is a theory that an energy called Qi flows through the body in channels called meridians. It is thought that when Qi doesn’t flow freely through the body it can result in pain and illness. It is theorised that acupuncture can restore the flow of Qi and ultimately restore health.
