Beat Gym Fear and Get Ready For the New Year

For many people, it is getting started on their fitness journey that is the most difficult thing. If you can resonate with this, then small group training might be the answer to help you on your journey to a healthier you. Our Health, Fitness and Wellbeing Coordinator explains the many benefits of group training to help you hit the ground running in 2019.

Safety in Numbers
Having the same people exercising next to you each week can help push you a little harder and challenge you more than you might do on your own. As a group you will develop the “we’re all in this together!” camaraderie that unites people with exercise until it becomes part of your routine.

No Judgement Zone
It’s always scary starting new things, especially when it comes to exercise. That’s why we have introduced a range of activities to build your confidence in a safe space where our instructors meet you at your level. You can start on one of our easier courses or beginner levels while you develop your confidence and progress into the more intermediate groups.

Stay Motivated
It is easy to lose motivation on your fitness journey after the novelty wears off and you are feeling tired and sore. However being part of a group will mean both the instructors and other team members are there to help you get through each session. An energising session with friends and team members will keep you motivated each step of the way!

Accountability
Statistics show that when you’re involved in a program such as small group training, you’re more likely to stick to it. Small group training sessions keep you accountable for showing up and putting 100% effort into the workout. That sense of accountability is what will get you started and will keep you coming back.

Try new things
Your workouts and exercises will change and evolve each week as you increase in confidence, learn new things and build on previous sessions. In a small group, the instructor is able to modify workouts and movements for each person and their fitness levels making it easier or more challenging.

More Individual Attention
In a small group setting instructors are able to see, correct, and encourage everyone in the session. Don’t worry, you won’t be picked out in front of the group but you will receive the benefit of one on one expert advice from your trainer.

Get results!
Results happen over time, not overnight, but with hard work, consistency and a supportive group, we know that you can reach your goal.

Guest Notice – Face Coverings

From Saturday 19th September, it will be essential for every person in Surrey Sports Park’s communal areas to wear a face covering. This is in-line with the campus-wide policy introduced by the University of Surrey.

The policy does not apply whilst taking part in sport and exercise and activity areas are exempt.

The University considers that the responsibility of wearing a face covering sits with individuals and we expect all our staff, students and public to adhere to this requirement where possible.

Please be mindful and respectful towards members of our community who, due to exceptional circumstances, may be unable to wear a face covering; their reasons may not be visible to others.

Thank you,

Surrey Sports Park
