Team Surrey prepares for 2012/13 Season

02 October 2012

As the University of Surrey welcomed 3500 new students to Guildford last week and a number of returners from summer holidays or placements, Team Surrey awakened from its hibernation ready to prepare hundreds of participants for the new season.

This week sees a number of our 44 sports clubs holding trials and opening training sessions at Surrey Sports Park and various other locations as they look to build their squads and teams before the first fixtures of the new season.

The University of Surrey Students’ Union’s annual Active Freshers’ Fayre took place on Saturday at Surrey Sports Park and saw over 800 students take part in a day of free sports trials and sessions with the majority of the Team Surrey clubs. The event gives everyone the chance to try something new and meet the clubs before committing to joining or attending a trial session.

Pictures from the event can be found on the Team Surrey Facebook page.

Meanwhile the Strength & Conditioning Team at Surrey Sports Park is holding several workshops with the aim of getting our student athletes ready and prepared for regular training and fixtures again following the summer break. The sessions are free to attend and have practical elements, running through a variety of drills and practises related to each topic. Each session will be run by a performance expert and will be on hand to answer questions and give tips.

Timetable of workshops:
Warm Ups and Speed & Agility Training- Wed 3rd October (09:30 – 12:00)*
World Cup Suite and Arena B, Surrey Sports Park

Recovery for Performance- Wed 3rd October (13:30 – 14:30)

Strength Training and Fitness & Conditioning- Thurs 4th October (10:00 – 12:00)*

* These sessions have a practical element and therefore require appropriate clothing and footwear
