Captain JJ Takes Surrey Heat’s Top Spot
20 September 2012

Surrey Heat fans will be delighted to hear that Julius Joseph is returning to the BBL team. Joseph has played with the Heat for three seasons, and has been named as Surrey Heat captain for the 2012/2013 season.
The Heat’s former captain, Mike Martin, will be playing for London Lions this season, having failed to agree contract terms with the Surrey-based club.
Creon Raftopoulos, head coach at Surrey Heat said, ''Mike has been a fantastic ambassador and captain for the Heat and will be missed on and off the court. Unfortunately, we were not able to retain him this season but are delighted that JJ will take on the role.
“The 2012/2013 season marks a new era for us – with a new name, Surrey Heat, and a new captain. I am delighted to have JJ back for another season. His leadership qualities, along with his experience, will play a huge part in us having a good season. I know he will do his best to lead our team at all times.''
In three seasons with the Heat Julius has averaged 14,5 points, 3 rebounds, shot 30% from the three point range and 72% from the free throw.
Julius Joseph added, “Surrey Heat has some of the best fans in the country and the organisation does a fantastic job – so I am very excited and motivated about returning to play for the club this season.
“I know what it takes to be successful and to play basketball at its highest level and I’m ready and focused to push our team to its maximum potential. My experience and leadership will be needed with Mike’s departure. It is a great challenge which I’m ready to accept.”
Surrey Heat’s first home game of the season is on Sunday 22 September against Mersey Tigers. Tip off is at 7pm at Surrey Sports Park. For further information or to buy tickets, visit www.surreyheat.com.
