Meet the new SHPI Interns

24 August 2012

Four new interns have just begun their placements in the Surrey Human Performance Institute (SHPI) based at Surrey Sports Park.

All four interns are studying Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Bath, and have completed two years of study before coming to SHPI to enhance their experience in the field.

Sam Griffiths
Originally from Chelmsford in Essex and a die-hard Liverpool FC fan, Sam has keen interests in physiology and biomechanics. He is looking forward to working with the vast number of elite athletes that use SHPI for testing, including Harlequins and skier Chemmy Alcott, and learning about the role in which the Institute pays in assessing the health status in clinical patients.

Sam is hopeful that his year with SHPI will point him in a confident career direction, possibly combining sport science with business or a role in physiology.

Emma Mitchell
Emma is from the town of Battle in East Sussex and is using her time with SHPI to gain a broad range of experience to aid her studies and send her in a specific career direction after her degree. Emma is currently exploring whether she would like to provide sport science support to athletes or clinical patients in the future.

Liam Batchelor
20 year old Liam from Ipswich is aiming to develop and hone is physiological testing skills and ability to deliver field testing protocols, as well as being able to provide research-based, personalised reports. Like Sam, Liam is particularly looking forward to working with the various elite athletes that use the SHPI on a regular basis.

Following his degree Liam would like to continue his education on an MSc or PhD course.

Roseanne Billany
Rosanne has a keen interest in providing sport science support in a clinical and general health setting. During her year with SHPI she hopes to gain more experience and knowledge and a broader skill set in the lab when working with clients. A particular focus for Roseanne will be around nutrition.

Following her degree she wants to continue education, specialising in the health and exercise field.

Everyone at Surrey Sports Park wishes Sam, Emma, Liam and Roseanne the best on their internship with SHPI.
