Glover and Stanning win gold for Team GB
01 August 2012

Great Britain held its collective breath this morning watching the Rowing women's pair final as Helen Glover and Heather Stanning won Team GB's first Gold medal.
The pair became the first British female rowers to win an Olympic title, clocking a time of 7:27.13, ending the wait for a gold medal for Team GB. Glover and Stanning commanded the race, gaining an early lead and maintaining it throughout the race.
Australia claimed silver and New Zealand the bronze. Both teams were pushing hard but Glover and Stanning's relentless pace at 36 per minute proved impossible to compete with.
Spandau Ballet's 'Gold' blasted out over Surrey Sports Park in celebration, with Nicholas (pictured below) winning a Bench Bar gift certificate in our Facebook and twitter competition to reach the front desk first and say 'I'm going for gold!'.
The Get into the Games competition will continue throughout the games with prizes up for grabs for any Team GB Gold medals. Click here for more information - http://www.surreysportspark.co.uk/london2012/Get%20into%20the%20Games/
