Team GB Sprinter Adeoye looks ahead to London 2012

27 July 2012

GB 200m runner and Surrey Sports Park ambassador Margaret Adeoye visited Surrey Sports Park last week to discuss how she was feeling ahead of her first ever Olympic Games in London and how coach Lindford Christie has helped her reach her ultimate goal.

Adeoye qualified for the Games after recording a personal best in the women's 200m heats at the Aviva 2012 Athletics Trials back in June. She followed it up with an impressive 23.11 seconds effort in the final to take first place and a spot in Team GB's London 2012 Athletics squad.

"To be selected, I just can't put it in words. When the names came out two weeks ago I thought I would be doing back-flips, but I haven't been. Every day the excitement has been growing" said the 27 year old.

Adeoye has been training with Christie since 2009 and has been using his experience and knowledge to help perfect her technique and prepare her mentally for the biggest moment in her career to date.

The sprinter expressed her excitement at being part of her home Olympic Games,

"I think we are going to perform amazingly, we have the home crowd supporting us and I think that really makes a difference."

You can watch Margaret race on Monday 6 August in the 200m heats.
