London & South East Climbers take Top Spot

28 June 2012

Two of Surrey Sports Park’s elite youth climbers helped the region to first place in the BMC Youth Climbing Series on Saturday.

James Grealey and Phoebe Nelson from the Surrey Sports Park Elite Youth Climbing Club both qualified for the finals following a successful regional competition in Guildford in May.

Both young climbers performed exceptionally well on the big stage, with Phoebe missing out on a top ten finish by just 2 points. Despite this there was still success to enjoy as the London & South East region, whom James and Phoebe both represented, took an first place overall.

The event, which takes place at the International Climbing Arena in Edinburgh, is the biggest climbing competition that currently runs in the UK and this year was no exception with over 300 competitors and 1000 spectators.

A full report and breakdown of results are available on The BMC website.

The Elite Club is now looking to switch its focus away from competition climbing over the summer whilst they focus on climbing outside to experience a different element of the sport.

Surrey Sports Park has a range of climbing courses and sessions for all ages and abilities. For more information please visit the Climbing Centre pages or email climbing@surreysportspark.co.uk.
