Reigate & Banstead crowned Surrey Youth Games Champions

18 June 2012

Surrey Sports Park hosted the Surrey Youth Games at the weekend, featuring over 2000 children and their families from around the county taking part in 13 different sports.

Reigate & Banstead took the top trophy for the second year running, finishing just 1 point ahead of Woking in second and Elmbridge and Surrey Heath who came joint third.

Their seven gold medals, three silver and five bronze were enough to earn them top spot in the medal table, with particular dominance in netball, boccia and judo events.

One of the main aims of the Games is to encourage young people to develop their sporting skills and promote physical activity as well as fair play in sport. A number of young people have attended local coaching sessions in preparation for the Games and for many of the players selected the event is their first experience of countywide competition.

Over 500 volunteers were also involved in the event, ensuring that it ran successfully for a third year in a row at Surrey Sports Park.

A full break down of results, pictures and the awards for Coach of the Games, Official of the Games and Gatwick Airport Volunteer of the Games are available on the Active Surrey website.

Congratulations to everyone that took part!
