Surrey Sports Park has added a 13th Olympic nation to the list of teams in pre-London 2012 training camps at the venue by signing an agreement with the Chinese National Olympic Committee.

The University of Surrey-owned facility will welcome a team of synchronised swimmers from China in July, who will be training in the 50m pool.

China took bronze in the women’s team event at Beijing 2008, their first ever medal in the Olympic discipline, and will be aiming higher in London this summer.

A number of tennis hopefuls will also join their swimming counterparts with Surrey Sports Park providing catering and accommodation at the Manor Park residences.

Paul Blanchard, CEO of Surrey Sports Park, said: “Welcoming a nation with such a strong Olympic pedigree is very special for Surrey Sports Park. We have athletes with real medal hopes training with us and we hope that we can be a significant part of their preparations towards that goal.”

China joins a number of other Olympic and Paralympic teams training at Surrey Sports Park ahead of London 2012, including those from Great Britain, Singapore and Nigeria.
