Quins are Aviva Premiership Champions!

27 May 2012

Harlequins Rugby Union were crowned Aviva Premiership champions for the first time on Saturday afternoon following an exciting victory over Leicester Tigers.

Following a fantastic season for Quins they went into the game knowing that the Tigers were used to the pressure of the big occasion having not missed a play-off final since the 2003/4 season.

An early try for Tom Williams eased the pressure on Quins, even if Nick Evans was unable to convert. Leicester converted a try of their own on the half hour mark but 3 successful first half penalties for Harlequins to 2 for the opponents gave them a 14-13 lead at half time.

From then on Quins never looked back and a 2nd half try for captain Chris Robshaw sealed what has been a fantastic season for the England skipper and his Club, bundling the ball over the line to give Quins an unassailable lead.

The final score was 30-23 and Harlequins lifted the Aviva Premiership trophy for the first time in their history.

Surrey Sports Park would like to congratulate everyone at the Club in their achievements this season!
