Four Clubs reach BUCS Finals

Team Surrey will be seeing a strong quota of clubs take part in BUCS Cup and Trophy Finals this season after four clubs make it past the semi-final stages.
Men’s Squash 1st took on Southampton 1st on the home courts at Surrey Sports Park last Wednesday afternoon and took away a 4-1 trophy win, meaning they will now face Birmingham 2nd in Sheffield on March 18th in the final.
Women’s Squash 1st took on Reading 1st in their cup competition, winning 1-3 on the road and will go on to face Brunel 1st away in the final. Men’s Rugby Union also continued their impressive unbeaten season with a 7-17 victory against St. Mary’s 3rd and will play a home final at Surrey Sports Park against Sussex 1st.
These teams join Men’s Fencing 1st in their cup final also against Sussex 1st and Women’s Badminton 1st who still have their semi-final to play against Essex 1st.
Men’s Volleyball 1st currently sit in a comfortable 3rd place in their league after a 3-1 win against bottom of the table Royal Holloway while Netball 2nd took a 31-19 victory against the same opposition. Netball 3rd also picked up an important win against Buckinghamshire 3rd, 12-46.
Team Surrey’s Equestrian Club enjoyed a week of great competition action, with the 1st team taking two 2nd places against LSE and Royal Holloway to put them joint top of the league. Genevive Kirk (2nd) and Emily Chomicz (5th) both put in great personal performances to help the team towards their top 2 finishes. The 2nd team took on Brunel 4th last week and took 4th place, with Sarah Grimshaw and Lousia O’Callaghan coming close to top 3 placings.
The Trampolining Club hit the road on Saturday in an Essex-based competition, coming home with a fantastic haul of 8 medals, including a gold for Greg Entecott in the intermediate men.
The Taekwondo Club travelled to Nottingham at the weekend for the 26th British Student Taekwondo Federation National Championships and came back with a well-deserved joint 2nd place, losing only to Southampton who won their third tournament in as many years.
