SSP Men’s tennis team gain promotion

The Surrey Sports Park Men's tennis team played their final match of the season yesterday in the Wilson Surrey Winter League away at Epsom Tennis Club.

Having won 2 and drawn 1 of their previous matches, the team knew that a win would guarantee top place and automatic promotion.

SSP won both the opening rubbers to lead 2-0, but lost the third rubber leaving everything resting on the final match.

However the pair of Toby Eves and Paul Mattar triumphed 6-2,6-2 meaning an overall 3-1 win for Team Surrey Sports Park.

Congratulations to all the men who played their part in getting SSP promoted in their first season.

The women's team now have one more match to play and victory will also guarantee promotion in what has been a great first season for the club.

Head Tennis Coach Nick Ingham said, “It has been a fantastic achievement for the guys to get promoted in their first season, and their hard work has really paid off. Hopefully the ladies can pick up the win they need too, as it will be great to celebrate success for both teams.”
