Men’s Rugby take League Title

06 March 2012

Team Surrey have picked up their first league title of the season as the Men’s Rugby Union 1st side continue an unbeaten league and cup campaign.

A win on home turf would have guaranteed the title for Team Surrey, which they managed in style with a confident 31-18 victory over Reading 2nd. Celebrations will come to a premature end this week though as the boys are back in cup action on Wednesday away to St. Mary’s College 3rd, looking for a spot in the final of the South Eastern Conference Cup A.

This may not be the last of Team Surrey’s league titles as several other teams took full points last week to keep up their push to glory. Our Women’s Fencing team have made it 8 wins out of 8 in the league with a 135-84 win over UCL 2nd, but will shift their focus to their cup semi-final this week. The story was the same for Women’s Hockey 1st who stay unbeaten and top of their table after a 0-4 weekend win over Chichester 2nd.

Women’s Badminton 1st strolled to a 1-7 win over Reading 1st to keep hot on the heels of Sussex 1st, while the Netball 2nd team landed an important 3 points at home to Roehampton 1st with a 53-37 win.

Men’s Football 2nd have set themselves up for a close finish to their season after a 5-0 home win against Sussex 3rd. Team Surrey lie in 2nd place in the South Eastern 5A table, joint top with this week’s opponents Chichester 3rd.

There is still plenty of potential in the Men’s Racquet sports as the Squash 1st side head into BUCS Trophy semi-final action this week following a 3-2 win over Essex 1st in the quarter finals. They will now face Southampton 1st for a place in the final. The Tennis 1st team also picked up a win, defeating Kingston 1st 4-8, keeping them in contention for the league title.

Team Surrey Ultimate enjoyed a successful weekend at the UKU Indoor Internationals as their Women’s side recorded the Club’s highest ever competitive finish! Losing to Sussex in sudden death during the plate final, they finished a very respectable 10th.
