Storm Slay the Dragons
27 February 2012

After losing out to Thunder last week, Storm jump back with an impressive final score of 74-50, at a sold out Surrey Sports Park.
Greenway’s return to starting line-up showed fast-paced drives down court, and impressive play at the attacking end, with goals by Dunn and Cookey. An evenly matched start with almost goal for goal play, but brilliant interceptions by both Reid and Holland saw Storm take the lead 11-8. The defence continued to play brilliantly against a tough opponent, 1.98m Dragon GS, Lottysha Cato. The final seconds of the quarter saw the play turn round from Dragon’s to Storm but a rare miss from Dunn saw the quarter finishing 19-17 to Storm.
Storm continued in the same fashion, maintaining a two point lead. However mid quarter the Dragons make Storm work hard and a few errors from the home team see Dragons take a two point lead. After a quick break for Cookey’s Injury time, it was all Storm, with balls flying in and striking play in both the shooting and the defence third saw Storm take a 11 point lead. A brilliant quarter ending with a spot-on shot from Dunn, leaving the quarter 41-28 to Storm.
No changes to the line-up after half time and Storm come out looking strong. Holland makes a brilliant interception and accurate mid-court drives, Storm well maintain their lead. Injury time for the Dragons saw a Greenway have a quick team chat and a shuffle round for Dragons, saw them get some goals back, but quarter three ends with Storm strongly in the lead 58-40.
A Relaxed quarter four for Storm with them dominating play. Storm’s defence continued with accurate play, stretching Storm’s lead, injury time saw Dunn and Cookey swap positions. But the Dragon’s stood no chance, the final seconds saw an opportunity for a last minute goal from the Dragon’s, but Storm proved too much. Final score 74-50, with Hannah Reid a well-deserved player of the match.
