Medal Steal Number Two for Team Surrey

09 December 2011

The Fencing Club continue to do Surrey proud as they bring home yet more medals in weekend action, with Judo also enjoying success.

Taking part in the Barwell Cup last weekend, Team Surrey Fencing Club faced mixed weapon, mixed sex events, and collected a number of medals across the board. The A team took 3 individual golds and a team gold to retain their title, while the B team came 3rd overall in an equally impressive display.

The Judo Club were also in action last weekend at the BUCS UCL Open, where Alex Edge won a silver medal in the 73kg category.

Midweek BUCS action saw 5 wins out of a possible 8 for Team Surrey, including a comfortable 22-0 win for Men’s Rugby 1st over Roehampton 1st at Surrey Sports Park. Leon Hon Sum Wei scored one try and provided two assists for the boys in blue, while Adam Smith finds himself top of the try scorer chart with 8 for the season, just ahead of Leon and Joseph Whitehouse who are both on 7. The win marks their 7th out of 7 in the league, and ensures that they remain unbeaten in all competitions.

Men’s Basketball 1st travelled to Brunel 2nd and came home with a 62-48 win, while Men’s Rugby Union 2nd also won away from home against Imperial 3rd 11-5, with a tighter score line compared to their counterparts.

Men’s Fencing 1st continued their excellent week with a 135-40 win against Kings College 1st at home, while Men’s 1st Squash defeated UCL 1st 3-2.

This week’s results put Team Surrey in 53rd place in the BUCS table.
