Scorpion Sting for Royal Holloway

Team Surrey notched a few big victories this week, including wins for Hockey, Badminton and Ultimate Frisbee.

Surrey Scorpions faced Royal Holloway in the London University Ultimate League, coming away with a confident 15-4 win over their county rivals. Women’s Badminton 1st also smashed their opponents, winning 8-0 at Surrey Sports Park and remaining unbeaten in their league campaign.

There were two big wins for Women’s Hockey as the first team travelled to Reading 2nd and won 7-0, making it 4 wins out of 4 in all competitions, while the second team comfortably defeated Portsmouth 3rd 4-0 at home.

Men’s Tennis enjoyed a mixed afternoon of results on the home courts after a win, a draw and a loss were recorded. The highlights of the afternoon included the second side enjoying an 8-4 win over Reading 2nd and the first team playing out a tight 6-6 draw with Kings College 1st.

Men’s Rugby Union 1st have maintained their excellent start to the BUCS season with a 5th win in a row, this time defeating Imperial Medics 2nd 64-0.  Joseph Whitehouse and Matthew Ody both bagged themselves hat tricks of tries and a total of 7 conversions to rack up yet another massive win for the Rugby lads. Andrew Grant was elected man of the man by his teammates.

These results put Surrey 48th in the BUCS league table, just 5 points below fellow southerners Sussex.

There was also a lot of weekend action for Team Surrey across various disciplines. The Trampoline Club recorded a handful of excellent individual performances in various competitions including 4th place in the Elite Ladies for Zoe Pounce, 5th in the Intermediate Men for Andy Sluman, Becca Shipperley finishing 6th in the Novice Ladies and a 5th place for Higher Synchro duo Hannah Birtwistle-Gordon and Zoe Pounce, her second notable finish of the meet.

Meanwhile, Surrey Spartans Hockey Club enjoyed wins for their Men’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd and Women’s 1st squads. Men’s Football 4th also played, travelling to Surrey Athletic and bringing a 3-1 league win back home.
