Raiders knock Heat out of trophy
23 October 2011

After another-fought encounter, the Heat went out of the BBL Trophy when they lost at the Plymouth Raiders on Saturday night. The Heat went down 83-87 on the road in a see-saw match that saw them constantly challenging for the win, but falling agonisingly short.
The Heat led 22-17 after the first quarter, but Plymouth chipped away at the lead, leaving the Heat ahead by just one at 36-35. A strong third quarter saw the Heat restore the five-point advantage as they led 61-56. However, the Raiders stormed back in the fourth, taking the lead 62-61 in the first two minutes. The Heat got briefly back in front with their first points of the quarter, but the Raiders retook the lead for good at 64-63 with eight minutes still to play.
The Heat kept it close thereafter, but they could never draw level or get in front as the Raiders answered every basket. The Raiders never got away through and the largest lead was only six points. The Heat got it down to a two-point game, trailing 81-83 with 30 seconds remaining, but they had to foul and Ben Smith made the game safe for the home team from the line.
The Heat were led by Martelle McLemore's 21, while captain Mike Marting added a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds . Anthony Rowe led the way for the Raiders with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
