Guildford Book Festival is coming to Surrey Sports Park this week. Dr Martin Polley is a Senior Lecturer in Sport at the University of Southampton. He is one of the UK's leading sport historians, with several books and broadcasts to his credit.
His latest book, The British Olympics: Britain's Olympic Heritage 1612-2012, charts the fascinating story of Britain's relationship with the Games. It is a story that begins in the Cotswolds and ends in London, taking in a variety of Olimpick, Olympian and Olympic Games along the way.
In this illustrated talk, Martin will explore the key moments and places in this story, and shed light on the lesser-known events that make up Britain's unique contribution to Olympic history.
