Team Singapore start strong at World Badminton Championships

Team Singapore have made a strong start to the 2011 ONEX BWF World Badminton Championships at London’s Wembley Arena.
The team spent last week preparing for the World Championships at Surrey Sports Park with matches starting yesterday.
The first day of action saw victories for Singapore’s Zing Liang Derek Wong, Mintian Fu and the pairing of Chayut Triyachart and Lei Yao.
Matches continue today with the tournament running until Sunday 14 August. The majority of the Republic's shuttlers face tough matches today against seeded opponents in their bid to advance to the third round.

Table tennis athletes from Singapore remain training at Surrey Sports Park this week, which has seen the park’s arena transform into a specialised international standard table tennis arena.
