GB basketball Futures squad named to train at Sports Park
13 July 2011

Following a successful inaugural season in 2010, some of the most up and coming British players have again been picked to represent the GB Future's team who will train at Surrey Sports Park.
The team will assemble at Surrey Sports Park on the 18 July for three days of training, before heading to Nuremberg, Germany, where they will take on the German under-23 side in a series of three games on 22, 23 and 24 July.
The Future's programme forms part of the British Basketball 'Towards 2016' (T16) strategy which aims to see the senior men's and women's team qualify in their own right for the Olympic in Rio de Janeiro.
The selected players sit between the under-20 and senior team and is designed to expose youth players to experienced senior team coaches in senior international competition, whilst also developing a team which can go on and succeed at future Olympic Games.
This year the GB Future's head coach is the Standard Life GB senior men's assistant coach Nick Nurse, who will be supported by assistant coach Paul James [head coach of England senior men's team and BBL team Worcester Wolves] and team manager Guy Coles.
The players will have the opportunity to prove themselves and potentially be selected in the senior squad for their EuroBasket 2011 campaign.
Head of Performance for British Basketball, Warwick Cann commented: "The GB Future's is always an exciting time when we see who of our emerging youth players can step up to the senior level. Last year there were four players who went on to be included in senior squad. "This year's programme will be built around a three test series against Germany so the challenge and opportunity will be there for our players to make a statement for the future."
