Surrey Sports Park hosts Paralympic Potential Day
08 June 2011

This week saw Surrey Sports Park host the Paralympic Potential Day.
The event saw 70 athletes try out in a full day of sports trials in hope of being selected to be fast tracked for the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Most trials are tests of skill assessed through observation by expert coaches, but some may involve assessments of speed, strength and endurance. Participants are encouraged to take part in as many sports as they are eligible for.
The day saw athletes attend trials in athletics, sitting volleyball, wheelchair tennis, sledge hockey, wheelchair basketball, judo, goalball, powerlifting, rowing, shooting, wheelchair fencing and swimming.
Performance Director Penny Briscoe said:
"It's been a great day, the facilities here are fantastic and the staff have been really helpful. Overall we've had a wonderful time and the day has been a great success."
ParalympicsGB has run a series of Paralympic Potential days since 2007 all across the country. The days give athletes who think they have potential the opportunity to meet highly experienced coaches and show what they can do.
