A new mural named ‘Movement In Steel’ was unveiled today at Surrey Sports Park by Allan Wells MBE.

The mural was commissioned by the University of Surrey and created by artist Barnaby Gorton. The 3D sculpture depicts a number of sports in action and welcomes arriving guests in the entrance foyer of Surrey Sports Park.

Surrey Sports Park Chief Executive, Paul Blanchard, said: “Barnaby’s fantastic sculpture offers a spectacular welcome for all our guests at Surrey Sports Park and it has instantly become an iconic feature of the building.”

Allan Wells was on hand to unveil the mural as part of a celebration to mark the Surrey Sports Park’s first anniversary.

Allan Wells won the gold medal for the 100m at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, the first Briton to do so since 1924. He is also an ambassador for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Shortly after winning his Olympic medal, Allan joined the University of Surrey and has remained a dedicated member of staff for more than 23 years.
