GB defeated by Cuba in day two of Game on 2011
21 May 2011

Day two of Game on 2011 and Cuba withstood a resilient Standard Life GB women's team to win 61-54, whilst Germany made it two wins out of two in the British Basketball Invitational Tournament, as they beat Latvia 75-56.
In GB's clash with Cuba, the standout performer on Tom Maher's team was Julie Page who grabbed 11 rebounds in a valiant effort to earn the victory, in addition to her game high 22 points. Standard Life GB player, Natalie Stafford also recorded a double-double with six rebounds and 10 points. Rachel Vanderwal added five rebounds from the bench, including two at the offensive end.
Standard Life GB coach Tom Maher was disappointed but not downheartened, recognising the progress made by his team and the quality of the opposition: "Tonight was close, we lost our nerve a little at the end, we made mistakes. The most important thing tonight was that we came to play. Cuba are always a good team, they play hard and with great passion and always put on a great show so it's good to have them here at this tournament."
The British Basketball Invitational Tournament concludes this afternoon at Surrey Sports Park. The action starts at 1pm when Cuba and Germany match up before GB face Latvia at 4.30pm. Admission is available on the door priced £6 for adults and £4 for children, with the ticket covering both games.
