England go to Court at Surrey Sports Park
13 April 2011

England Internationals Peter Barker and Tom Richards were at Surrey Sports Park today for training with England Squash Coach Chris Robertson.
World number 7 Barker, who had played at Surrey Sports Park in last year’s Premier Squash League final said, “It’s a great place to train, alongside other top class athletes. The atmosphere is buzzing and you’re surrounded by like minded people trying to improve. I’m looking forward to making this a regular training base.”
For squash fans it is good to see some of the world’s top players on court and how impressed they are with the facilities. Local hero Tom Richards, born in Guildford, said, “The facilities are fantastic and perfect for any athlete looking to improve themselves. The fact that there are six courts is perfect for squads and the two show courts look great for any potential tournaments or league matches.”
This week has also seen Surrey Sports Park hold a series of squash camps for juniors from all over Surrey wanting to improve their skills as it is an ideal venue for coaching. This is something England Coach, Chris Robertson supports, “It’s a fantastic venue, with excellent courts and an open, friendly atmosphere. The facilities offer diversity in socialising, training and is very accessible. The chance to pass the time with other sports to watch is another bonus for coaches and athletes who spend a lot of time at a single venue.’
Surrey Sports Park is the England Squash & Racketball Regional Centre of Excellence and will host the PSL final again this year on 3rd May.
