Surrey came out victorious in both the men’s volleyball final and men’s fencing final at the 2011 London and South East BUCS Conference Finals held at Surrey Sports Park on Wednesday. Watch the volleyball team win here.

The finals saw Universities from across the region compete in a host of sports for a chance to be crowned BUCS Conference champions.

The men’s volleyball team came out on top thrashing Essex 2s 3-0 in front of a passionate Surrey Sports Park arena crowd.

Elsewhere in the all-Surrey fencing final between the first and second men’s fencing teams, the first team proved too strong, winning 135-85, topping off a great year of fencing for both teams.

Commiserations to the women’s rugby team who narrowly missed out on cup success with a 17-12 defeat to Middlesex in an injury interrupted game.

A special mention too to the University of Surrey women’s tennis team, who after a great season lost 4-8 to LSE in a tight match that carried on well into the evening.

With five teams competing and two out of a possible four teams crowned champions, it was a great afternoon for Surrey.

Event co-ordinator Kara Glassborow of Surrey Students’ Union said, “The event itself was a huge success, and all teams and Universities enjoyed a sunny day of sport using the great facilities at Surrey Sports Park.”
