Hosts Surrey Sports Park place third at the ISRM and IQL National Pool Lifeguard Championships

Teams of lifeguards from sport and leisure centres across the country competed at Surrey Sports Park for the ISRM and IQL National Pool Lifeguard Championships. The event saw the Surrey Sports Park team compete for the first time, and impressively finish in overall third place, finishing just behind previous winners Cardiff Dragons and Birmingham City.
Nine teams from all over the UK took part in the event, each consisting of four lifeguards. Teams were put to the test over five modules including, Fitness, CPR, First Aid, Incident Management and Rescue Speed. It was a tight finish, with the day ending in an exciting climax with the finale event, the Rescue Relay.
The Surrey Sports Park team, lead by Assistant Manager Luigi Mansi, included Recreation Assistants Luke Springer, Emma Sticka, Zoe Hadley, Liz Richards, Senior Recreation Assistant Sam Cartwright, and Duty Officer Matt Evans. Amongst the attendees at the event were VIP guests, Councillor Marsha Moseley the Mayor of Guildford, Tara Dillon Executive Director of IQl and Lesley Coulton Vice President of the ISRM.
Iain Woodley, Interim Managing Director of Surrey Sports Park, said, “We are delighted to have hosted the ISRM and IQI National Pool Lifeguard Championships this year and the event proved a huge success. It was a great effort from the Surrey Sports Park team to place in our first year in the competition and our success underlines our commitment to swimming safety and guest care.”
