Surrey Storm complete hatrick of win

11 February 2010

Surrey Storm made easy work of Team Northumbria defeating the visitors by 60-26.

After the drama and tension of the epic victory over Team Bath it was more of a gentle stroll in the park for Surrey Storm who once again delivered in style with a convincing victory.

It was an opportunity for Storm to play squad members and Rhianne McHale and Chrissy Fitzgerald both made their Storm debuts today.

Storm started well and had built up a massive 17-5 lead after the first quarter and with Michelle Hall scoring 100% in the opening period. The Dunn shooting machine was once again a formidable force today with her notching up a massive 44 goals from 50 attempts and an 88% shooting average.

Natasha Hampshire impressed with her speed and skill in the centre court and was awarded player of the match by Head Coach Mary Beardwood and another pleasing stat was that Rhianne McHale missed only one shot in the whole of the second half. Also Team Northumbria’s goal attack failed to score a single goal or have an attempt on goal for the last three quarters.

It was the third win of the week for Storm keeping them firmly at the top of the table and confirming them as the team to beat in the Co-operative Netball Superleague, Head Coach Mary Beardwood was exceptionally pleased with today’s result after a very busy week; “It was an exhausting week, physically and mentally for the squad with three top games. I am pleased with our consistency after last night’s match which resulted in a very late finish for the girls”. She added; “To win the first quarter 17-5 was a credit to all of them and I was able to play lots of players today meaning all our squad members except Polini who is injured have now played”.

Storm Skipper Sonia Mkoloma stated; “It was great we were able to put out three consistent performances in six days, everyone really dug deep for all three and we put out some world class performances this week”.
