Surrey Sports Park receives £115,883 lottery investment to give local sport a boost
Surrey Sports Park is set to help more local people get into sport thanks to £115,833 of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Community Sport Activation Fund. The Sports Park’s newly announced ‘Game on Guildford’ project is among 32 projects to receive a share of £5.1 million of funding to support grassroots sport activity across the country and build a lasting legacy from last year’s successful Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) today confirmed all the communities in the South East through which the Olympic Flame will be carried by Torchbearers during the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay which is presented by Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung.

Leicester stop Heat fireworks
There were fireworks at the Surrey Sports Park on Saturday night as the Guildford Heat hosted the Leicester Riders. With a much improved performance, the Heat took the Riders to the brink, only to fall to a piece of magic from the Riders' American point-guard, Cameron Rundles, who led all scorers with 33 points.

The expectation was for Sue Hawkins’ side to progress but to do it with such aplomb against a valiant Irish side was to be admired. It rained, it poured, but that didn't dampen the enthusiasm or enjoyment for any of the 2400 competitors who took part in the P&G Surrey Youth Games at Surrey Sports Park. moleReigate and Banstead were crowned the overall champions, with Elmbridge second and Woking coming close in third place, but it was a celebration for all as all each borough and district secured gold, silver and bronze medals.

GB finish third as Game on 2011 concludes
The Standard Life GB women wrapped up the British Basketball Invitational Tournament at Surrey Sports Park with a 67-64 victory against Latvia. Tom Maher's side ensured they finished third in the competition thanks to a strong first half display. In the other final day game Cuba defeated Germany 58-51 to clinch the British Basketball Invitational trophy.

Day two of Game on 2011 and Cuba withstood a resilient Standard Life GB women's team to win 61-54, whilst Germany made it two wins out of two in the British Basketball Invitational Tournament, as they beat Latvia 75-56.

Germany and Cuba lead British Basketball Invitational after day one
Germany and Cuba are joint leaders of the British Basketball Invitational Tournament after day one at Surrey Sports Park. The British Basketball Invitational Tournament continues this Friday afternoon at Surrey Sports Park. The action starts at 14:30 when Latvia and Germany match up before the Standard Life GB women face Cuba at 19:00. Admission is £6 for adults and £4 for children, with the ticket covering both games. Nigeria set to train in Surrey ahead of London 2012
Top athletes from Nigeria will be based in Surrey for their preparations ahead of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games. An agreement is to be signed between the Nigeria Olympic Committee and Surrey which will see athletes representing the African nation train and stay at key sports venues across the county including the University of Surrey’s Surrey Sports Park and the Guildford Spectrum, in the lead up to the Games in just over a year’s time.

To celebrate the start of the World Cup and as part of the Summer of Sport, Surrey Sports Park Crew and the University of Surrey student first team are planning a Charity football match to raise money for local charity, Chase Hospice, on Monday 14th June, kick-off 4.00pm.

Surrey Sports Park opened its doors just over two months ago, and on Friday 28th May the achievements associated with the facility to date were celebrated at the Surrey Sports Park Inaugural Dinner, whilst on Saturday 29th May its Summer of Sport was launched with an Open Day for all.

Surrey Sports Park set to launch Summer of Sport
Fresh from the successful opening earlier this month, Surrey Sports Park has today announced details of the launch of their Summer of Sport in association with Penningtons Solicitors, with a free, family fun day on Saturday 29th May. The open day will see a host of local and national sports stars take part in a series of celebratory exhibition events and free coaching clinics, including top British swimmer, Mark Foster.

University of Surrey Business Management Undergraduate Margaret Adeoye has returned from the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Outdoor Athletics Championships 2010 in Bedford with two gold medals after winning the women's 100m and 200m finals.
