Following the announcement on 6 July 2005 that London would be hosting the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the opening of Surrey Sports Park in April 2010, the University of Surrey and Surrey Sports Park have been looking to maximise the opportunity to develop a tangible legacy from the London 2012 Games.

Selected as an official training and preparation venue for the Games, Surrey Sports Park alongside Surrey 2012 has signed agreements with a number of National Olympic Committees and Associations to host their Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
